FIELD NOTES
Alfacada: 2026-08-26, 8.40-9.45h UTC (DOY 238)
Author: Angèlica
Others: Ariane, Qin
Summary: regular maintenance, resent datalogger program alfacada_v1 (removed eclipse one)
Weather: Very cloudy, high humidity, windy, warm.
We filled the li-7700 water bucket, which was around 25% full.
Qin cleaned the sensors. There was a dead animal in the rain gauge, but it was not blocking the path. Qin noticed a scratch in the li7700 lens.
We downloaded flux data. We had to remove the USB to do so. We deleted June and July, so we went from 5/15GB to 11/15GB of free space.
We connected to the datalogger through direct cable, since ethernet connection is still not working. We downloaded all data, including the eclipse tables. Afterwards we resent the program we had before the eclipse. Ariane had retrieved the old program, but it was confusing since the ‘last modified’ date appeared to be different when looking the files from the laptop file explorer and from the datalogger file explorer.
Datalogger was 4s ahead of UTC. PC was 12s ahead of UTC. We left the datalogger clock as it was.
We repositioned the phenocam to have the same frame as before the eclipse. The timezone was set wrong, and we changed it from GMT1 to UTC-1. It was showing 8.13h instead of 9.13h UTC (10.13h local time without daylight saving). There were no pictures from the eclipse, as Iosif had already find out, but he had managed to fix it some hours before so the phenocam was now saving the picture correctly.
While Qin and Angèlica were downloading the data and cleaning the sensors, Ariane went to site 2 of Alfacada to remove chamber collars from the field, since Eurecat had lent them to us for our fieldwork the following week in the Basque Country. After finishing with the tower, the three of us went to site 1 and site 7 to pick the other collars.
