Biogeotrace Lab

Research in biogeochemistry, trace gas and energy fluxes at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

Welcome to the Biogeotrace Lab at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

Ariane Arias Ortiz
Group Leader

Our research group focuses on understanding carbon and energy flows between wetlands, the atmosphere, and adjacent water bodies. We combine micrometeorological techniques with isotopic tracer analysis in soils, air, and water to study how these fluxes respond to disturbance, land management, and a changing climate.

The lab is an extension of the Grup de Recerca en Radioactivitat Ambiental de Barcelona (GRAB), based in the Physics Department at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Additionally, we are part of the SGR-Marine and Environmental Biogeosciences Research Group (MERS) at ICTA-UAB, contributing expertise in biogeochemical and gas flux dynamics across aquatic–terrestrial interfaces.

Biogeochemical Cycles

Understanding carbon and nutrient cycling in wetland ecosystems through advanced analytical techniques and field measurements.

Trace Gas Dynamics

Monitoring and analyzing greenhouse gas emissions and energy fluxes across aquatic-terrestrial interfaces.
